Added 08/24/08 – Not so surprised to see this match never happened.
According to a recent post on GracieFighter.com, the Stockon MMA standout Nick Diaz is keeping busy during his time off from the cage. He is currently focusing on training with the gi, preparing for the Gracie Open Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament. He “hopes” to face Rickson Gracie’s son and student, Kron Gracie. Kron, 19, has proven his talent by submitting over fifty consecutive opponents during his rise through the purple and brown belt divisions. Kron has since been promoted to black belt and competed in the 2008 Mundials World Jiu-Jitsu Championship, loosing to Sergio Moraes who would go on to win the gold medal in the event.
As of yet, nobody has confirmed this match will definitely happen, so I guess we’ll all just have to wait and see.
For anyone looking to sign up for the event, there will be gi, no-gi, children’s (under 16), men’s, and women’s divisions. Event will start 10:00am at Diablo Valley College (click for map). Registration is $60 for adults, $85 total if registering for both gi and no-gi events, and $40 for children under 16, $55 total is competing in both events. Spectators are welcome at $10 per ticket. Children under 9 admitted free when accompanied by and adult.
